What to expect from polarity therapy

Also referred to as polarity balancing, polarity therapy is based on Randall Stone's theory that a smooth flow of energy maintains health. When energy is fixed, blocked or unbalanced, fatigue, pain and illness arise. Stone was a osteopath, chiropractor and naturopath who studied various health theories from China and India. He believed that we can improve or spiritual and physical well-being through simple steps such as those provided by polarity therapy. Polarity follows the principles of attraction and also the basic laws of Yin and Yang.

Such factors as trauma, tension, stress, poor nutrition, inflexible thinking, pain and environmental stimuli can affect the energy flow in your body. Practitioners of polarity therapy claim they can release the human body's energy blocks through exercise, bodywork, self-awareness and diet. They also claim polarity therapy can increase energy, relieve tension, promote relaxation and reduce swelling, inflammation and pain. A typical polarity therapy session may include deep-breathing exercises,  supportive counseling, hydrotherapy, yoga and stretching. Most patients report feeling less tense and more relaxed following a polarity therapy session. Polarity therapy is usually practiced in conjunction with supervised medical care.

Polarity therapy is believed to be useful with various conditions including: stress management, allergies, spiritual growth, arthritis, skin disorders, asthma, sciatica, burn out, pregnancy and postpartum, cancer, pre and post surgery, chronic fatigue syndrome, PMS, circulatory problems, neuralgia, depression, menstrual disorders, digestive disorders, menopausal symptoms, emotional trauma, major life changes, fibromyalgia, insomnia, headache, injury, health maintenance, inflammation, infertility and hormonal imbalances. Polarity therapy is said to be useful in fighting off serious illness, including cancer but these claims have not been proven.
